Ed Schaefer died


On March 12, 1978

one of the legendary American midget drivers Ed Schaefer died from heart attack in the village of Floral park, New York, leaving his widow Blanche Schaefer with whom he lived since 1940s and two sons. It was considered that after his death the most of the archives of ARDC has been lost but after the death of his son in the beginning of 2000s the papers of Ed Schaefer have passed to his grandson who started to sort them out and publish.

His name was given to the prize for the best rookie by the results of the year of ARDC club – «Ed ‘Dutch’ Schaefer and Jiggs Peters Memorial Rookie of the Year Award». In 1992 Ed Schaefer was inducted into the Eastern Motorsport Press Association Hall of Fame and in 1999 he was immortalized in the National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame.
